WHO ARE WE?
" The revolution has always been in the hands of the young. The young always inherit the revolution. "
- HUEY P. NEWTON
OUR STORY:
Inspired by social movements of the past, such as the Black Panther Party, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), the Blacklight Initiative is a non-profit organization dedicated to youth education and community enrichment. Our goal is to equip members of underprivileged communities with the resources and aid necessary to become as autonomous as possible. Through ethical investments and the implementation of educational courses and workshops into the communities we aim to serve, the Blacklight Initiative hopes to have an impact on the social, cultural and economic progression of our communities.
Our Causes
At the Blacklight Initiative, we're working to ensure that our community and local leaders have the knowledge, resources, and opportunities to make a real change in society. We see our campaigns as collective efforts and tools for connecting and building a stronger, more self sufficient community movement.
PARTNERSHIP
As a young organization, we place a great deal of value on partnership. We believe that the best solutions for our communities come from within; through potential partnerships with local businesses, other community organizations and community leaders we are making it our mission to build awareness so that this is a possibility not just within our communities but also across the nation.
ADVOCACY & EDUCATION
Advocacy and education are essential pillars of our initiative. There is strength in numbers and there is power in knowledge; we work to inform and encourage others to take a stand for what they believe in.

THE TRADE INITIATIVE
One of the first of many programs that we are putting into play, is the Trade Initiative Program. With this, we hope to revitalize youth interest in the trades. As of the last 10-20 years, extracurricular hands-on classes in public high schools and middle schools (such as woodshop, auto, electrical etc.) have unfortunately become obsolete. As a result, there has been a steep decline over the last two decades in the youth interest for trades.
Our program aims to facilitate the necessary resources and information to the young men and women who have a desire to join the industry and to hopefully spark an interest in the ones that don’t.
